Political Knowledge: Honestly, Pippa has more important things to worry about than who might be a Death Eater or a member of the Order of the Phoenix. She trusts the DMLE to do their job, and she has no interest in doing it for them. Skills: n/a Politics: Pippa learned one very important lesson from her parents as a child: everyone is deserving of love, but respect must be earned. This carried over to her politics, where she sides firmly with the Justinian party. She wholeheartedly believes that Muggleborns shouldn't be disregarded just because they weren't born to a pure family, and likewise believes that she and her fellow purebloods aren't entitled to anything by virtue of their heritage alone. She believes in working toward a compromise, and while she thinks this war stems from a place of hatred and ignorance, she stands behind the Ministry with the hope they can put a swift end to this war. She wasn't entirely certain what to think of the Order of the Phoenix when they first came on the scene, though part of her hoped they could achieve what the Ministry hadn't, with the Death Eaters turning their attention on blood traitors. The Red Day started her thinking they were doing more harm than good. She doesn't agree with the notion that the Order are terrorists, but they're clearly vigilantes and not helping the situation. Past War Involvement: Pippa was shopping in Diagon Alley on 12 December 1977 when Death Eaters attacked, and she suffered minor injuries. She's also worked with many families affected by the war, and has watched Frank and Alice through many scuffles as Aurors. War Effort: Friends of the DMLE; Purple Hats. Pippa joined Friends of the DMLE the day Frank and Alice began their Auror training. She understands the sacrifices they have to make, and she likes what the group does to make their lives a bit less stressful. She's been going to the Purple Hats with her aunt Augusta and her mother since she left Hogwarts, and while she finds she disagrees with most of the other ladies, they do occasionally accomplish something important and it makes her mother happy to go. DETAILS 20 Word Sentence Describing Your Character: Pippa is a pureblood with a heart of gold, a will to help others, and a mind of her own. Personal History: Enid Diggory had been a secretary in the Department of Transportation for over a year before she met Algeron Longbottom. They wound up sitting at the same table in the Ministry cafeteria one afternoon and struck up a conversation. His parents were eager for their eldest son to marry and give them a grandchild, and hers recognized the potential of a match with the Longbottoms. As for Enid and Algeron, they were only interested in friendship, at least at first. They came to marry in their own time, never rushing each other nor letting their parents push them into anything they weren't ready for. With his new salary as a barrister and her salary combined, they found a quaint little house of their own near Lancaster. Only two months after Algeron's sister-in-law had announced her pregnancy, he and Enid found themselves expecting a child of their own. Phillipa was a loud and active child, ever curious about the strange new world around her, and by the time she was four, her parents had given up hope of having another child. Pippa was raised to be a proper young woman, and being the sole heir meant learning responsibility and accountability. Being a girl didn't make her spoiled or change her parents' expectations. She grew up knowing how very much she was loved by her family, but that didn't change the fact that there were certain things she had to earn. She came to expect the world to be that way, and it was the way she came to treat others. Pippa's inherently loving nature endeared her to many, but she didn't like being taken advantage of. She wasn't averse to sharing things, but if she had to earn privileges, she shouldn't have to give up something she didn't want to just because someone else wanted it. She wasn't unforgiving, but she didn't forget when someone did take advantage of her, and those people had to work harder to win her trust. When she left for Hogwarts, half her family expected her to wind up in Hufflepuff, but she followed her cousin Frank right into Gryffindor and never doubted her sorting for a second. Ever the sweetheart, she made friends quickly, and while she wasn't at the top of her class, she was by no means a bad student. She excelled in Charms, and she passed the rest of her classes, and that was good enough for her. Pippa was at a loss during career counseling in fifth year. Whether or not marriage was in the cards (and she did fancy a few boys at the time) she couldn't imagine herself as a housewife, and being a secretary in the Ministry didn't sound like her cup of tea, either. She told her head of house that she wanted to help people. She wasn't sure beyond that, but she was happy when she was helping others, and if she was going to do one thing for the rest of her life, she might as well be happy doing it. It took sifting through dozens of Ministry pamphlets to settle on the Division of Family Services. Being named Gryffindor prefect when Alice was appointed Head Girl helped her application to the Ministry. Her seventh year was made up of prefect duties, trying out and actually making the Quidditch team, going on dates here and there, and studying for NEWTs. The day she got her marks was the day she applied for an internship. Every day spent in the Division of Family Services brought the hardest work Pippa had ever done, but every child and every family she helped made her feel better. She thought she knew the world, but she realized how sheltered her life had been when she started working at the Ministry. They were overworked before the war began, and it only got worse as things compounded and children were orphaned and families were torn apart. There were still things that gave her hope. Children in need of a home were adopted. Widowed mothers got the help they needed to take care of their families. Nothing made her quite so giddy as when her best friend and her favorite cousin started dating. At least, not until she was promoted to social worker. She avoided pressing them about when they were going to get married, figuring they got enough of that from her aunt, but she was absolutely delighted when they finally became engaged. Keeping an optimistic outlook became difficult, however, when the Death Eaters began targeting blood traitors. The Longbottoms with their Justinian politics fell into that category, and it was hard not to worry. The war was hitting close to home. Pippa was caught in the crossfire during an attack on Diagon Alley while doing her Christmas shopping in 1977, fortunate to suffer only minor injuries. Her hope was renewed when Neville Longbottom was born. She hadn't been involved in a serious relationship in years, not since she became a social worker, and she knew she wanted a child of her own, one day. Without a husband, however, she could make do with an adorable baby cousin. She's always willing to look after him for Frank and Alice, at least when she's not looking after another child in need.
